Flex Thinking

What is Flex Thinking?

Everyone has seen some clever new invention or website and asked, “Why didn’t I think of that?” While that is a good question to ask, like most “good questions,” nobody ever provides a “good answer” to it. We know that thinking of such things involved “thinking outside the box,” but nobody ever explains how to do this!

The Flex Thinking class teaches you how to actually get outside of the box. It is divided into three sections:
  1. Assumptions (Recognizing the box)
  2. Opportunities (Finding weak spots in the box )
  3. Solution Patterns (Moving out of the box into what you don’t know that you don’t know )
Who should take the Flex Thinking class?

The Flex Thinking class is a fun, interactive experience that will change the way you view the world. You will start to see possibilities where previously none seemed to exist. You will learn to exploit these opportunities in novel ways. Instead of asking yourself why you didn’t think of this or that, you will be the one having the great ideas.

Flex Thinking was developed by long-time Microsoft engineers Tom Sponheim and Bruce Welti, who noticed that job applicants who could think outside the box were the ones who got the job, even if the skills and experience listed on their resume was lacking. By using the principles of Flex Thinking themselves, Tom and Bruce were able to patent many ideas, including Ajax web technologies, which is used by Microsoft, Google, and thousands of other companies.
